Physiology & Biochemistry
Department of Physiology

Human Physiology is the science that deals with various functions of the human body, their control under normal condition and their regulation under different physiological and pathological conditions.
BDS students are taught the Physiology of different systems in the body. It includes hematology, cardio-vascular system, respiratory system, central nervous system, autonomic nervous reproductive system renal physiology and endocrinology.
The theoretical aspects are taught by the senior faculty during the lecture hours. The Practical aspects are taught in the Hematology and Human Physiology laboratory. The students develop their skills here and also learn to interpret the results of different procedures with special reference to clinical correlation.
Physiology comes from the word 'Physiologicos' which means 'Discourse of natural knowledge' that virtually means study of normal functioning of the living organisms. The role of this department is thereby is to impart the knowledge regarding how the human body maintains its normal functioning inspite of constant destabilizing forces in and around the body and counteract the ill effect if different environmental , physical and social hazardous factor. The theoretical concept regarding this is also consolidated in practical classes through our State of Art Hematology laboratory and Clinical physiology laboratory. The department has dedicated and sincere staff members headed by Dr. Asim Kr. Basak. The able and quality assistance provided by Dr. Manveen along with technical staff members is key to run this department smoothly

Thorough knowledge of Biochemistry plays a pivotal role in Disease Diagnosis and Treatment given by every medical student. Keeping this in mind, the Dept. of Biochemistry, S.R. Dental College & Research Centre has been established.
The Dept. is fully equipped in imparting both Theoretical and Practical knowledge on the subject as per requirements of today’s generation of Dental Doctors.
The well equipped and IT savvy faculty uses interesting methods of teaching like power-point presentations, seminars, conferences and discussions.
The centre also has state-of-the-art Biochemistry Lab which includes both basic and advanced equipment for analysis. Both Qualitative and Quantitative analysis of various Bio-molecules is undertaken. Also demonstration of analytical methods like Chromatography and Electrophoresis are part of the practical curriculum.
The Lectures and Practical sessions are ably supported by the Library which has all relevant books and literature for keeping both faculty and students updated about latest developments in the field.
Biochemistry is a crucial part of both Graduate and Post-Graduate programmes and the performance of the students in the university examinations has been consistently impressive.
The Department will continue to support the aim of the college to develop its students into excellent professionals.
