Welcome to the Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry.
“Pedodontics or pediatric dentistry is an age defined specialty that provides primary and comprehensive, preventive and therapeutic oral health care for infants and children through adolescence, including those with special health care needs”.
The Department currently offers graduate training leading to Bachelor of Dental Surgery awarded by the Pd. B.D. Sharma University of Health sciences, Rohtak, and will soon start Post graduate training program leading to Masters in Dentistry (M.D.S.)
The curriculum is structured according to the Dental Council of India and Pd. B.D. Sharma University of Health sciences accreditation's requirements and the program is fully accredited by these statutory bodies.
CLINICAL ACTIVITIES
The primary goal of the training program in pediatric dentistry is to prepare dentists to become specialists who are proficient in providing both primary and comprehensive preventive and therapeutic oral health care to infants and children through adolescence, including children with special health care needs. In addition, the curriculum is designed to prepare students wishing to pursue a career in research or teaching in pediatric dentistry.
Advances in materials and evidence based skills are regularly incorporated in the training program thereby imparting an up to date knowledge to the students in the department.
PATIENT CARE
The philosophy employed at the department are based on the principles of empathy with due consideration to the feelings and anxiety concerns of the child dental patient. The treatment approach is based on through understanding and clinical application of the emotional and physical development of the child. The aim is to promote child’s good future dental health by stimulating the attitude and behavior regarding dental care.
EDUCATION
The training in pediatric dentistry at the Department of Pedodontics and Preventive dentistry is in accordance to the university and Dental Council guidelines. In addition to these university and council based component, significant hospital and community-based clinical experience is gained.
RESEARCH
The Department is actively involved in various ongoing research works and contributes actively to the scientific knowledge on various print, publishing and conference platforms in the subject. |
